For those who do not know me, let me share. My name is Donna Benson. I teach 7th grade Math and 7th grade Intensive Math at South Middle School. I have three boys, Thomas, Bradley and Clayton and am married to my wonderful husband, Steve. I graduated from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas.
Although I teach 7th grade Math and 7th grade AVID now, I have not always taught this grade. This is my 14th year of teaching in Liberal, Kansas. The first two years were teaching Title I Math to 1st graders at McKinley. The next six years were devoted to Sunflower teaching 6th graders. This is my fifth year of teaching here at South. Before moving to Liberal I lived in Round Rock, Texas. While in Round Rock I taught 2nd grade for two years, 4th grade for one year, and followed by 2nd grade again for two years.
I met my husband, Steve, through church in Round Rock. As of Valentine's Day, we have been married 26 years. Steve works for Wireless Data Communication here in Liberal, Kansas. Steve and I have three wonderful boys, which I am very proud of. My oldest, Thomas, is going to K-State Salina to be a professional pilot. He is also serving in the Air Force ROTC where his goal is to be a fighter pilot for the Air Force. Bradley is my middle son. He is working form EMS here in Liberal while going to school at SCCC. His goal is to be a Paramedic. Clayton is a junior at Liberal High School. Clayton is in band, jazz, and football.
I did graduate from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas with a degree in Elementary Education. I started my career as a nursing student, but proceeded to education. My minor is in psychology.
